It was an understandably different day for both Team JiR riders at Silverstone today as the Moto2 series visited Great Britain for the first day of practice for the British Grand Prix.
On the one hand Johann Zarco, arguably the most impressive debutant in the Moto2 class this year, was fast all day on his MotoBI, while Brazilian youngster Eric Granado, making his World Championship debut, was learning what it is like to be a Moto2 rider at the very highest level.
Johann finished the day 5th fastest, less than a second behind the fastest rider, Pol Espargaro. Meanwhile Eric has been making steady progress towards his first World Championship qualifying tomorrow. As usual, the British weather has already made itself felt, with sessions throughout the day being wet, dry or damp!

I am quite happy with today’s work. This morning it was wet and the track was drying, so we got some very useful information in these conditions, in case the race is like this. In the afternoon it was dry and I could keep putting some good lap times in on my own. It was a good feeling to be going at that pace with not many going faster. My manager Laurent Fellon was also watching me and he said I looked good out there today. Now we need to try and understand what we did and improve the MotoBI, stay focused and move forward. I like this track: it is fast and gives the rider a lot of adrenalin, so I enjoy it very much as a rider.

First practice wasn’t very good for me as on the eighth lap I think it was, I crashed. In the second free practice the conditions were better and I improved much in the corners, but tomorrow I will move forward still further. This is my first Moto2 race at a World Championship event as I have only just turned 16, so the learning curve is steep! This is also a difficult track to come to for the first time, as it is very long and wide, so the more
time on track I have, the better. I am enjoying this experience very much though!
Top five classification after free practice:
1. Pol ESPARGARO – 2:08.826
2. Scott REDDING – 2:09.335 – 0.509
3. Bradley SMITH – 2:09.533 – 0.707
4. Marc MARQUEZ – 2:09.553 – 0.727
5. Johann ZARCO – 2:09.718 – 0.892
33. Eric GRANADO – 2:16.479 – 7.663
