Randy and Team JiR secure more points in German Grand Prix Moto2 race

Today’s German Moto2 race saw Randy Krummenacher and Team JiR take more points with a fine 13th place finish at the Sachsenring.

Randy started from 19th on the grid and had a hard first part of the race with him finding it difficult to make a good race pace. As the laps counted down, the Swiss rider was soon up to a consistent pace and was making up positions and managed to take advantage of a few fallers to take some more precious world championship points.

In the race itself pole-sitter Johann Zarco had a difficult start, but soon took the lead but was hunted down by Belgian rider Xavier Simeon who took his maiden Moto2 win. Making up the third place on the podium was Alex Rins. On the final corner of the race, reigning champion Tito Rabat was knocked out of third place on the last corner by Franco Morbidelli.

Andrea Viviani, Chief Technician: “It was a hard start to the race, we had bad qualifying and it affected the race very much. Many riders wanted to take a big risk at the start and for Randy it was hard to brake later than some of these other riders. So instead Randy took his time and built up his rhythm and he recovered a lot of positions and was only a few tenths slower than the winners pace and made his fastest lap at the end of the race, but around this track it is hard to make up positions. During this month off we need to prepare for Indianapolis and the next few races after that. Basically, we hope to continue and make progress little-by-little.”

Randy Krummenacher, 13th position, best lap 1m 25.334s:”It went OK today and we have to be satisfied with three points, but then for three-quarters of the race I was unable to attack and then during the last part of the race only then was I able to hit some good lap times: my best lap was right at the end of the race. We wanted to be in a good place for most of the race. We seem to be competitive with a used tyre and not so with a new tyre so we need to work out why. This has a big impact on the start of the race, as I’m more on the limit in the first part of race. We need to analyse data from the start of the race to the end and make a plan for Indianapolis. For all their hard work in the first part of the season I want to thank the team and sponsors.”
