Johann Zarco comes 8th at Silverstone qualifying

Johann Zirco - SilverstoneTeam JiR rider Johann Zarco will start tomorrow’s Moto2 race from eighth place on the grid, following a wind-swept qualifying at Silverstone today. The 21-year-old Frenchman has been fast all weekend, and is looking forward to making a good start tomorrow and staying with the leading group. His young team-mate, 16-year-old Eric Granado slashed almost two seconds from his time today, as he continued to gain experience on his MotoBI and learn the lines around the British track. On pole position for tomorrow’s race is Pol Espargaro, from Andrea Iannone while local heroes Scott Redding and Bradley Smith are also in the top five.

Best lap: 2m 09.353s

Eric Granado - SilverstoneI am positive about today and I can be happy because we are in the top ten in qualifying which is better than in Barcelona. One of the big positives is that all through this qualifying session I rode alone and didn’t follow anyone to make the fast lap. This I think is important, as I’m confident that I can make it into the 2m 08s bracket while running with the leading group.

We will look at the telemetry and see where we are losing out to the others, I think, but speaking to the team and my manager Laurent Fellon, it is clear that the time difference between me and the fastest riders is mainly down to experience, so this will come. Today also showed how well we are working as a team and how we’re communicating as I reported an issue with my MotoBI and the team made changes which improved the bike. Tomorrow the start will be important – and here the first six corners are vital. So, I need to be aggressive, but not too crazy and try to keep my focus and go with the leading group.

Position: 33rd

Best lap: 2m 14.803s

Again we have made a lot of progress today. I am still getting used to this track, as it is long and wide but we have gone faster, which was the aim, obviously. I am still looking for the right lines around this circuit, the faster lines anyway, so later it will help to take a good look at the telemetry with the team and see where we can make more improvements. One thing that hasn’t helped today has been the strong winds around this flat circuit. This has made things very difficult for me, but I guess it is the same for everybody.

Top five classification after qualifying:
1. Pol ESPARGARO : 2:08.011
2. Andrea IANNONE : 2:08.396 – 0.385
3. Scott REDDING : 2:08.616 – 0.605
4. Bradley SMITH : 2:08.844 – 0.833
5. Marc MARQUEZ : 2:08.864 – 0.853

8. Johann ZARCO : 2:09.353 – 1.342
33. Eric GRANADO : 2:14.803 – 6.792
