While the summer pampers riders with sweet conditions, FEMA shook the ground with its most important events: the European Motorcyclists’ Forum, the 1st International Motorcyclists’ Conference and the MEP-Ride.
The idea of organizing altogether a regularly held forum for high-level exchange, a conference with international input, and the Ride for Members of the European Parliament turned out to be a major success. Representatives from motorcyclists’ organizations coming from all over Europe, Canada and Australia met top officials from the European Commission, Members of the European Parliament, independent researchers, and motorcycle manufacturers.
The event was a clear demonstration of the power of motorcyclists, and of our ability to put it into action. Of course there is still a long way to go, but our concerns are taken seriously, especially among decisive decision makers within the European Institutions. An additional proof of FEMA’s influence was given briefly before the events took place, as CEN voted to improve the European standard for safety barriers – helping make roadsides more rider-friendly.
Furthermore, in this newsletter you will find information on our other current topics, an outlook of the Belgian presidency of the EU, news about our members’ activities, and developments in intelligent transport systems coming from Brussels.
Have a safe and free ride,
General Secretary of FEMA
