New Malaguti is a stroke of success
Malagutis first ever 4-stroke sells out worldwide
Even though Malaguti are Italys third largest motorcycle
manufacturer, producing in excess of 100,000 machines per
year, demand for their new Madison scooter is outstripping
supply. The 125cc 4-stroke Madison has been 2 years in the
making and is part of Malagutis long-term strategy to
move towards a range of environmentally "clean"
4-stroke scooters. The liquid cooled Yamaha motor is fully
automatic and produces 12 bhp, giving a top speed of 65 mph
plus.
UK importers Harglo received their first batch of Madisons
immediately after its launch at the NEC last November and
they sold out before Christmas. The next batch of machines
is due this month and the entire stock is already pre-ordered
by dealers. According to factory sources this picture is repeated
throughout Europe, suggesting a swing towards larger capacity
scooters capable of a variety of roles.
Sales of Malaguti scooters in the UK reached record levels
with 2 models appearing in the Top 10 registrations for the
competitive 50-100cc sector, making the UK Malagutis
fastest-growing market.
Although powered by a Yamaha motor (developed in conjunction
with Italian engine giants Minarelli) the rest
of the machine is pure Malaguti, with an emphasis on a combination
of design & function;
- Shock-resistant wing mirrors contain indicators
- Adjustable handlebars and large double seat for maximum
comfort
- Under seat storage for a full face and open face
helmet
Innovation
aside, the Madison 125 has the characteristic handling &
stopping prowess associated with the Malaguti name.
At just 126 kg it is one of the lighter scooters in its class
and a great deal of energy has been spent getting the overall
package right.
The body-work has been aerodynamically styled in the Moscow
wind tunnel and sits on a CAD technology tubular steel frame.
This combines with 13" wheels, Paioli
forks and twin Sebac rear shocks to give a superb
ride. Stopping power is courtesy of a Grimeca
240mm disc brake up front and 220mm disc at the rear which
are linked by an integral system to give smooth progressive
braking even in the wet.
Price is £2,699 OTR, including 2 year
warranty and free Oxford Heavy Duty Chain Lock
