BJ Toal and Nick Medd will be in the hunt for their first point-scoring ride of the season after difficult times at Thruxton two weeks ago. Both riders faced an uphill battle after a second qualifying session pockmarked with red flag incidents left them further down the grid order than early performances warranted.
Oulton Park has proved a successful hunting ground for the reigning Virgin Media Cup Champion. In 2007, BJ claimed a thrilling last gasp victory over Midge Smart by just 0.042s, before claiming third on the second visit to the Cheshire circuit later in the season.
Nick Medd is returning to the picturesque Oulton Park circuit after a two year absence, and is keen to elevate his performance from Thruxton into a top fifteen finish this time out.
Taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend, Free Practice will be on Saturday, with the two 35-minute qualifiers on Sunday afternoon. The lights will go out on the 16-lap Supersport race at 14.40 on Monday 5 May.
BJ Toal: "With the way things went at Thruxton, I'm hoping for a better weekend overall at Oulton. Things just did not go according to plan and I'm going to put that behind me The team deserves a good result because the guys work so hard and put a good bike out on track. Really, it's now down to me and hopefully I'll be running where I know we should be."
Nick Medd: "I struggled badly with arm pump at Thruxton and I am having some pressure and nerve tests done at Oulton with the help of Toby Branfoot and Julian Blake. I'm sure it is down to the fact I am lacking 'race fitness' even though I am physically as fit as I have ever been. With more miles under my belt, relaxing a bit more on the bike and having better track management, as I made too many mistakes in the race at Thruxton, it should solve the problem.
Oulton is a great circuit and I am looking forward to continuing to build my confidence with the bike and improve on my last performance. If I can do that at every round then I'm sure it won't be long before I'm back to where I want to be."
Rob McElnea, Team Principal: "My Supersport plans took a bit of a wrong turn at Thruxton, we never really got close to our 07 times, and if you cannot get comfortable around the scariest track in the world it ends up being an uphill battle all weekend. Oulton should be much better and I will expect to be nearer the sharp end."
