SUZUKI CELEBRATES BRITISH SUPERBIKE SUCCESS
Team Rizia Suzuki's John Reynolds has clinched the 2004 Think! British Superbike championship title just one week after he and Japanese team mate Yukio Kagayama secured the British Superbike Manufacturer's title for Suzuki. The Suzuki GSX-R1000 mounted duo has performed superbly all season, taking 25 rostrums finishes from 26 starts.
Having strengthened his championship position at Oulton Park two weeks ago, John secured overall
victory at Donington Park, finishing third in race one and sixth in race two. The results placed him 29 points clear, securing the third British Superbike title of his career. Despite injury problems earlier in the season, teammate Yukio finished third in the final championship standings.
Speaking after the race, John said: "What a fantastic day. Thank you to Rizia Suzuki for supplying the best bike and team this season and well done to Yukio for getting on the Championship podium in third."
British Superbikes provides some of the most spectacular road-racing action on offer today and attracts riders, manufacturers and fans from all over the world. In this fiercely competitive, closely fought environment, John and Yukio never failed to make their presence felt. Defeating inner demons at round 11, Cadwell Park, Yukio erased thoughts of his near-fatal crash at the course last year, managing heroic third-place finishes in both races. For John, success was built on the consistent implementation of disciplined and determined riding. A crowning jewel came at round 12, Oulton Park, where he 'did the double', accomplishing two impressive first-place finishes.
Suzuki's success in British Superbikes marks the start of a special 20th-anniversary year in 2005, celebrating the conception of its GSX-R race-replica genre. Through years of carefully structured evolution, every GSX-R model has sustained an extraordinary winning edge, collectively building a legendary heritage. On both racetrack and road, the GSX-R remains a force to be reckoned with.
Since its introduction three years ago, the big-brother of the GSX-R series, the 1000cc model, has become dominant at the highest levels of racing. This year, in addition to the bike's British Superbike success, it overshadowed the competition at the Isle of Man TT and is leading America's AMA Superbike championship.
For road riders today, each bike in the current GSX-R family is as tantalising a buying proposition as the original GSX-R750 was to riders back in 1985. There are now three production GSX-R machines:
the 600, 750 and 1000. Each combines race-derived styling, outstanding performance and the very best road-handling available. Re-launched earlier this year, the GSX-R750 has, in its latest form, been particularly favoured by the motorcycle press. Journalists have exalted the latest GSX-R750 incarnation as 'in a class of its own', with some even rating it higher than larger-capacity rivals.
Now the excitement begins again, with the introduction of a brand new GSX-R1000 for 2005. Unveiled last week at the INTERMOT motorcycle show in Munich, Germany, the new GSX-R1000 breaks the mould yet again, daring to be different with a trend-setting selection of radical new features.
