Suzuki GB PLC has made ABS standard equipment on the 2006 Bandit 1200S and Bandit 650S motorcycles, making these machines even more competent for riding in all seasons. ABS provides improved control when stopping a motorcycle on many road surfaces with a reduced or unpredictable level of grip. While braking, tyre adhesion can be adversely affected by rain, ice, wet leaves and diesel spills. It barely needs emphasising, therefore, that ABS can make a difference on UK roads.
The changeable British weather makes high demands on rider skills and machine design. Stopping distances can increase dramatically on wet roads, and controlled braking requires caution and experience. ABS assists the rider with optimising control, thus reducing the likelihood of locking a wheel under heavy braking. The latest Suzuki machines to benefit from this technology include the 2006 Bandit 1200SA and Bandit 650S.
The Suzuki ABS system monitors the rotation of both wheels, and detects when a skid is about to begin while braking. At this point, the brakes are pulsed rapidly on and off to achieve the maximum possible stopping force without locking either wheel.
The Bandit 650SA is available from dealers now at £4,499 and the all-new Bandit 1200SA will be available from March, price to be advised.
