2006 Rotary Classic Motorcycling Run - Raising Funds for Motorcycle Ambulances

The Hove Rotary Classic Motorcycle Run
Entries for the 2006 British Engineerium Classic Motorcycle Run on 23rd April are already pouring in. Now in its ninth year, the event has become one of the leading events in the national Classic Motorcycling calendar. The Run around Sussex is organised by the Rotary Club of Hove and has broken attendance records year on year. It also has a very important charitable role and has raised over £30,000 to date.

Hove Rotarians are now supporting the highly successful and award-winning UK based motorcycle charity Riders for Health. From funds raised by last year’s Classic Motorcycle Run, they have donated £1,500, enough to buy a “go anywhere” machine for use in providing African rural healthcare.

Riders for Health has devised a very simple and ingenious formula for delivering vital healthcare to millions who live in remote and inaccessible areas. It provides fleets of ultra-rugged motorbikes, fitted with side-cars which serve as ambulances. The bikes will also drive a pump to provide a small community with an irrigation system. African engineers train local people to maintain and repair the machines. The life-saving Uhuru motorcycle ambulance combination will be on show at the event at the British Engineerium in Hove .

So far Riders for Health has enabled nearly 11 million people to receive regular treatment and support in Africa. The charity was set up by husband and wife Rotarians Barry and Andrea Coleman. Its impressive target is to provide enough reliable transport for the complete delivery of health services throughout Africa by 2015!

Hove Rotarians would like to thank the 300+ loyal riders who made last year’s Run such a success and hope that they and many newcomers will join them for another great day out on 23rd April. Once again there will be a very scenic run through the glorious Sussex countryside. As always, it will be fully signposted and marshalled. There will also be a shorter, less-demanding route for older and lower-powered machines. There are seven cup award categories to compete for.

The entry fee includes coffee on arrival, the route card, souvenir badge, souvenir programme and hot lunch. There will be a selection of real ales and light refreshments on sale. The Engineerium’s beautiful grounds are ideal for family picnics. Everyone can take a free tour of the historic Steam Museum and there will be live jazz from the Millstones Big Band. All the details and the entry form are on www.engrun.supanet.com.

Please send any enquiries to collington.ian@virgin.netor ring Mike Peters before 9:30pm on 01273 502042
