Barry Sheene, a British Icon and 100 years of Motorcycle sport in the UK

Sunday 6th July will see Rugby in Warwickshire transformed into a biking extravaganza as it plays host to a very special tribute to the memory of one of Britain`s best-loved sporting personalities – BARRY SHEENE

The Auto-Cycle Union (ACU) in conjunction with Rugby Borough Council – Britain`s most bike friendly town - are putting on a day of entertainment to celebrate the life of the British biking legend.

The day will not only be a tribute to Barry but also an opportunity to raise money for CLIC – Cancer and Leukaemia In Childhood – the charity nominated by Stephanie Sheene.

Chief Executive of the ACU, Neil Hellings, said, “Although the day will be tinged with sadness over the loss a biking hero, we are determined to make the event a day everyone will enjoy and remember. The support and encouragement we have received from Stephanie Sheene has been magnificent and I am sure we will raise a significant sum for her preferred charity – CLIC. Stephanie has had several approaches to organise a tribute day and we are proud to be the one given her sanction.”

The Day, which will also be a celebration of the ACU`s centenary and 100 years of motorcycle sport in the UK, will include an official run of 100 historic machines amongst the cavalcades that day. The starting point for the historic run will be at the Ace Café in London and will culminate in a parade through Rugby Town Centre before the bikes will be placed on display in Caldecott Park.

The day will also include plenty of entertainment from 10.30 in the morning including trade stalls, street entertainment, a huge charity auction and much more. The day is aimed at families as well as bike fans with loads of to see and do, as well as plenty of places to eat and drink.

The Ace Café is supporting the event along with Suzuki, Datatag, Motorcyclenews.com, Warwickshire Police and Bikesafe.

The ACU are inviting bikers from across the country to enter >www.TheSheeneRun.com and ride to Rugby to show their support for CLIC and keep Barry`s name alive! Those who pre-register will get some exclusive benefits including Access All Area passes, secure bike parking, free commemorative programme and bike stickers, and free entry to the Charity Auction.

The dedicated website will be updated regularly as more announcements will be made, including items which will be up for auction and famous names who will be taking part!

All profits will go to CLIC – Challenging Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood.
