| Off-road motorcycle tour in Portugal |
Motorcyclists who have experienced a BMW Off-Road Skills course can now take on a new challenge by joining a World of BMW nine-day off-road tour in Portugal this September.
Portugal is blessed with sunshine and magnificent off-road trails, and BMW has enlisted the help of a local guide for this special motorcycle tour, which encompasses some of the best trails on the fringe of the Serra da Estrela mountain range in northern Portugal.
To join this tour, motorcyclists must have previous off-road experience. It is suitable for solo riders with a BMW GS (or similar) motorcycle and includes four days of off-road riding, as well as four days of road riding.
The World of BMW tour departs from Plymouth on Sunday 17 September on an overnight ferry to Santander. On arrival in northern Spain the group will ride southwest to the Portuguese town of Guarda for an overnight stop.
On day three, the group have their first day of off-road riding in the mountain location of Covilhã, where they will stay for two nights. The group will enjoy another full day riding off-road and exploring the trails in this area. On the fifth day the tour will head west to the city of Coimbra – one of Europe’s oldest university towns – and the base for the next two nights. The majestic 12th century university building overlooks the medieval city, with its many cobbled alleys, archways and stairways.
Day six of the tour will consist of more off-road riding but this time on the trails that surround the Serra da Lousa mountain range. On the seventh day, the group will enjoy riding the twisty mountain roads to Porto, where they can sample the local Port wine. The following day the group will ride to Torre (the highest point in Portugal at 2,000 metres) and then continue on to Guarda for the night. The final day will see participants return to Santander for the ferry, which will see them arrive back in the UK on 26 September at 10:30am.
The nine-day World of BMW Off-Road Tour in Portugal will take place from 17-26 September 2006. Prices start at £1,149 per solo rider. The price includes return ferry fare with cabin accommodation (shared); two nights half-board in Guarda; two nights half-board in Avo; two nights B&B in Coimbra; B&B in Porto; four lunches; a visit to the Port wine producers; the tour programme as described; all the necessary maps and route details; travel pack; local guide and a World of BMW representative to accompany the group. VAT is also included.
The price excludes petrol; lunches and drinks; admission charges; entertainment not included in the programme, and travel insurance.
