"Happy New Year!!

On Sunday, 23rd April I will be taking part in the event of a lifetime, running 26.2 miles in the London Flora Marathon. This is a real challenge for me but I am doing this to raise money for Spinal Research (registered charity number 281325).

As some of you will remember, I suffered two crushed vertebrae myself in a car crash some years ago, and to this day appreciate greatly the fact that I can still walk and indeed run and for this reason I have chosen to support Spinal Research.

Any donation you can make towards my sponsorship total would be really appreciated. Donations can be made on line at www.justgiving.co.uk/suzisrun.

Anyway, thank you so much for taking the time to read and I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Love
Suze xx"

About Spinal Research:

Each year in the UK, 100 motorcyclists are paralysed in accidents that damage their spinal cords.

It is an unfortunate reality that spinal injuries are a very real risk for motorcycle riders; protective clothing and awareness of the dangers have helped but the risk remains. Anyone who loves motorbikes knows how devastating a serious accident can be. You might even know someone who has been paralysed in an accident – or maybe had a lucky escape. Each year in the UK around 1000 people – typically young and active - are paralysed by spinal cord injury.

Spinal Research’s Rev Up campaign was launched with the collaboration of the British Motorcycling Federation in 2002 at the Tail End Show, a major occasion in the motorcycling calendar. Rev Up has been a very successful campaign for the charity, where motorcyclists and Spinal Research work together to fight paralysis.

Spinal Research has already awarded nearly £500,000 to projects that will help repair spinal cord injuries typically sustained by motorcyclists. This work has proved successful in the laboratory and human trials have already commenced, with the initial results looking promising.

These projects will directly benefit injured motorcyclists; we are hoping that the motorcycle community will support Rev Up, so that Spinal Research can do more to help injured motorcyclists. A typical 3-year project costs about £150,000. Each new project takes us further down the road towards routine treatments; with your help treatments will be available sooner.

Spinal Research funds projects dedicated to finding ways to repair damaged spinal cords and ultimately aims to end the devastating effects of paralysis caused by spinal injury. If you would like more information please visit the Spinal Research website at www.spinal-research.org.

Donations can be made on line at www.justgiving.co.uk/suzisrun.
