Mann of His Time,
the remarkable and inspiring story
of racer Dick Mann

North Conway, July 2002—America has never produced a more accomplished and versatile professional motorcycle racer than Dick Mann. He held a position in the prestigious top ten in the American Motorcyclist Association Grand National Championship for 16 years, was the first man in history to win every category of AMA Grand National competition, was America's team captain at the Trans-Atlantic Match Races in Great Britain in 1971, was twice AMA Grand National Champion, won the Daytona 200 twice, won his class at the first AMA professional motocross held in America, and earned a bronze medal by completing the International Six Days Trial. Competing against Bobby Hill and Bill Tuman at the beginning of his professional racing career, and against Kenny Roberts, Torsten Hallman, and Brad Lackey toward the end, he still competes and wins today on the popular vintage circuit.

Author Ed Youngblood draws upon his 30 years of experience in the motorcycle industry, an exhaustive review of the existing motorcycle literature, and hundreds of interviews with Mann's friends, colleagues, and competitors to tell the story of one of the greatest motorcycle racers in history in this new book from Whitehorse Press. While Mann's performance on the race track alone is enough to fill a life or a book, his accomplishments do not end there. Youngblood describes how he pioneered race track safety and influenced major political changes within the American Motorcyclist Association. Racing during a period of major transition in the sport, and influencing many of its changes, he is an inventor, a fabricator, an accomplished motorcycle frame designer, and in recent years has become one of the foremost leaders in the vintage motorcycle racing movement.

For five decades, Dick Mann has done it all, and done it well. He has been a trend setter, a ground breaker, and a mentor and guiding light to countless motorcycle racers. Driven by determination and unflagging adherence to his own high personal standards, Mann has worked to improve everything he has touched in the motorcycling community. His many fans and admirers will want to collect a first edition copy of this important new book.

Softbound, 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches, 288 pages, b/w illus. Price of the book is $19.95 plus shipping. VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, checks, or money orders accepted.
