Grunt will be the main topic of conversation in preparation for Mallory Park this weekend. Not the noise that big Dean makes moving the bikes around, but that crucial drive out of the turns on a small and demanding track. “There always were a few places where you got into a sort of stop, start regime at Mallory, even before the Edwina’s complex was introduced”, comments team principle, Nick Morgan.
“The tendency is always to go for peak power and top speed, but you just can’t use that here so we are concentrating on grunt to get the bikes out of the corners as quickly as possible”.
With hardy Scot Stuart Easton out, the team are relying on the skills of team-mate, Billy McConnell to help the MSS “rookie”, James Haydon.
“I’m getting real used to the ZX-10R now”, says McConnell. “I am sure that the guys and myself can give James a few ideas about how the bike needs to be set up. For my part, I am looking forward to Mallory, it’s just down the road from my house and I would love to do well here for the local fans”.
Haydon is taking a measured approach to his surprise ride with the official Kawasaki Motors UK Superbike squad and has been preparing away from the media spotlight.
“I had a quick shakedown at Mallory and then another session at Brands Hatch recently just to get dialled in and to meet the team. The bikes are immaculate and I am motivated to repay the faith that the guys have placed in me. I’ll do my best to keep the seat of Stuart’s Ninja ZX-10R warm ready for him to return to the team as soon as he is fit again.”
