| Kawasaki Z1000 |
These days with on-line shopping and drive-thru everything, it takes something exceptional to make people stop, stare and even take some time out to get close to any product, just another reason why Kawasaki’s radical Z1000 ‘streetfighter’ styled bike is proving to be so special.
After only a couple of months in Kawasaki dealerships across the country, the new Z1000 is really capturing the attention of biking fans, and has heads turning whether in traditional Kawasaki green, the new blazing orange, or the mean-looking black which has recorded more than 40 per cent of votes in the online ‘favourite colour’ poll at www.kawasaki.co.uk
Kawasaki dealer Pete Extance has already seen the Z1000 make a massive impact in all three of his Kinson Kawasaki showrooms in Bournemouth, Oxford and Southampton, and believes that the bike has captured the mood of riders perfectly.
He said: “It’s great to be able to offer the public something different like the Z1000, it has such a wide appeal but we’ve found that it’s mostly men in their thirties and forties that have been compelled to give it a try as soon as they see it.
“The demo bike has already done more than 2,000 miles and we have had people trading in all sorts of other manufacturers bikes in order to get their hands on the Z1000. Common opinion among bikers is that Kawasaki has really got it right with this bike.”
And it is not only committed bikers who have been stopping by to take a look at the dramatic semi-naked curves of the Z1000 – a bike which won the 2002 Design Award from the International Motorcycle Design Association before it had even seen the country’s roads.
Opinion on the bike’s attention-grabbing style is consistent across the country with John Wilson of Edinburgh Kawasaki adding: “We had the bike at the Scottish Bike Show recently and it generated so much interest that people have been coming from miles away to take a test ride. The Z1000 we have in the showroom window really does have bikers and non-bikers walking in off the street.”
The Z1000 is powered by a specially tuned 935cc version of Kawasaki’s awesome Ninja ZX-9R engine, with electronic fuel injection and a honeycomb catalyser giving high power with low emissions. The powerplant is mounted in a lightweight Diamond frame of large-diameter tubing for brilliant handling in the range of situations faced by all riders.
Martin Lambert, Kawasaki UK’s Marketing Manager, explained: “It is no real surprise to hear dealers and bikers saying good things about the Z1000. Just like them, I was very impressed the first time I saw the bike and I really think that it is simply a case of the right bike at the right time.
“The Z1000 has really completed the Kawasaki range, offering riders something that we didn’t have before and continuing our tradition of being at the very forefront of motorcycle design, engineering and technical innovation.”
