APRILIA SR 50 R FACTORY SCOOTER WINS COMPARISON TEST

Aprilia SR 50 R Factory Scooter
Uncompromising racing design, the most advanced engine technology of any scooter, plus unrivalled performance and handling, that's the Aprilia SR 50 R Factory Scooter. Voted winner of the 'best on test' 50cc scooter comparison test in Britain's leading consumer magazine, Which?, June 2005.

The SR 50 R Factory derives from the SR 50, which set the benchmark for every race replica scooter since it was introduced in 1992. With over 800,000 units sold, this is due in no small way to a number of firsts:

1992: first ever sports scooter
1993: first ever Racing Replica scooter
1994: first ever sports scooter with liquid cooling
1997: first ever scooter with two disc brakes
1999: first ever 50 cc scooter with electronic fuel injection.

Aprilia SR 50 R Factory Wins Comparison Test
The SR 50 R Factory is completely new and resembles Aprilia’s top sports motorcycle, the RSV 1000 R Factory, both in appearance and in technical development. This class leading scooter boasts better performance and greater reliability, thanks to a second generation ‘Ditech’, fuel injected two-stroke engine, which further reduces the engine’s already miserly fuel consumption, so the capacious 7-litre tank allows long periods without refuelling.

Other big bike characteristics include large diameter wheels, super-low profile tyres and high tech suspension. The streamlined leg-shield, powerful twin headlights, central air intake, and aerodynamic tail with integrated tail light and indicators are all just like those fitted to Aprilia’s supersports flagship. Similarly, the three new colours are aggressive and eye-catching - Aprilia Black, Aprilia White and Speed Orange and replicate the graphics of the 2005 RSV 1000. There's even a special 'Spiderman' version available.

Safety and control are further guaranteed by a fantastically effective braking system, with two 190 mm discs for maximum stopping power. The 13” wheels are fitted with 130/60 super-low-profile, motorcycle style tyres, which have always been a feature of the SR. This combination would be more than enough for engines far bigger than 50cc and offers extra assurance of great road holding under all conditions.

Comfort is exceptional, thanks to a new leg shield that extends further forward than before. The SR 50 R Factory's riding position is designed for maximum control as well as comfort, and a specially shaped seat prevents fatigue on long rides. The classic under-seat storage compartment already accommodates a full-face helmet with ease, but is now accompanied by a second compartment in the nose of the seat, providing over a litre of extra space for stowing mobile phones and other small items.

The SR 50 R Factory is highly theft resistant, thanks to the ignition immobiliser (as on the RSV 1000), which makes it impossible to start the engine without the encoded ignition key. All this is included in the price of just £1,999 on the road.

SR 50 R

Enjoying most of the benefits of the SR 50 R Factory, but with a modern, liquid cooled, carburettor fuelled, two-stroke engine is the SR 50 R. It delivers a truly high level of performance, and in conjunction with the advanced new chassis, shared with the SR 50 R Factory, guarantees an unbeatable ride. The SR 50 R differs from the SR 50 R Factory on the following points:

Liquid cooled, two-stroke engine with carburettor fuel system
Digital-analogue instruments with LCD display
No security transponder
All other characteristics are in common with the SR 50 R Factory, but sells at an incredible £1,699 on the road.

Each Aprilia SR model is in demand by those who have a passion for sport and the world of motorcycle racing. These scooters are a way of life, meant to beat traffic queues, deliver a comfortable ride and guarantee fun. All come with a 2-years manufacturer's unlimited mileage warranty and are available with 12 months roadside assistance, including homestart for just £37.50.
