Putting
the Boot In
MAG and motorcycling events are coming under possible
threat of extinction from the problems associated with
unrestricted and illegal car boot sales.
The Department for Transport, Local Government and the
Regions have issued a consultation document on the possible
changes to the "The Use Classes Order and Temporary
Uses Provisions" MAG contacted Iain Clark, who is
heading the Department's consultation, he confirmed that
Rallies and events would be affected by the proposed changes.
Event organisers and clubs can use any field or any piece
of land for up to 28 days a year for rallies and shows,
motorcycle sports are restricted to 14 days.
The proposed legislation suggests that all events would
have to apply for planning permission from local councils
on top of an entertainment licence which is already dealt
with through councils and the associated problems in the
consultation document and a liquor sales licence.
MAG's Director Of Public Affairs, Trevor Baird, says,
"Rallies and Bike Shows are the fund raising life
blood for local MAG groups. The proposed changes in the
legislation will restrict the flow and could seriously
curtail MAG's representation and protection of riders
rights." MAG needs you to respond to the consultation
document, we only have until next Wednesday 24th April
to respond.
MAG has prepared an Action Document.
